Question:
Is there a way to prevent automatic update to date field in word/excel files.

Scenario:
I have thousands of word/excel files which I am converting to PDF thru' batch processing. Suppose if the files have date field, it is getting updated to today's date when the batch process opens them to do the PDF conversion. I am trying to find a way to preserve the original date in the document.

ANy help would be highly appreciated.

thanks. It is working in Excel. Do you know how to do the same in Word?

Skip,
If I set the option to manual all other formulas in the workbook are not working. I want to preserve only the date field to original date. Can you please help?

z,
the other formulas in the workbook should not have to be recalculated when the workbook is reopened - they would still be valid from the last time it was saved. Only the date would be different. Rob

Rob:
thanks. That is a valid point and will work for the convertion purpose.
Do you know of any way of doing the same thing in WORD.

thanks again.

I'm afraid I don't. The DATE field is really meant to reflect the CURRENT date (and to stay current) - if that's not what's meant, then a different means of inserting the date should be used (typically, not a field). I hope that someone finds a solution for you, but you may be stuck... I'm not even sure that the actual (most recent) value is stored with the document.
