Tricks to running a shell script from a web php program?

I have a php prog that delivers a prompt for an event. The parameters entered when submitted are used to start a job on the linux server which is a bash shell script. For the most part I've got this working. But I'm running into some permissions issues.

Hopefully some of you apache(2.2.11) guru's have done this in the past and would be willing to share your tips and techniques as to how to get this to run effectively?

Run PHP with SuExec.
