Trend versus Symantec Corporate

If you had to choose between Symantec Corporate or Trend Micro's business suite what would you choose? I already have an opinion, I'm just looking for some other opinions.

My company changed from Symantec to Trend-Micro.

I think the decision makers on that one thought it had better detections.

I recommend anything other than symantec. Personally I highly dislike that company. That is just my opinion though. I think the trend micro was a good choice. Ive also heard nod32 is good, however I can not say as ive never used it. Plus antivirus experience I have pertains to home users not corporate.

My company is currently using TrendMicro Client/Server security agent. I chose this over the others due to cost and highly due to the fact that they are stationed about 5minutes away. I have had to put in tech calls twice now with near instant turnaround times and cant be more satisfied with the switch. I personally enjoy the Security Dashboard which allows me to see which stations are affected and with what. It also has a Vulnerability scan feature which shows any OS updates that are recommended which can come in handy.

i use and have used both trend and symantec extensively, both have pros and cons. with every version i like trend more and symantec less. trends support is much better than symantec, i get call backs in 15 min or less, symantec is usually several hours or days.

I've tried both. TrendMicro has better tech support but is prone to false positives, Symantec has a better interface/better scanning but is a resource-hog. If you're looking for eye-candy, go with Symantec. If you're looking for support I'd recommend TrendMicro.

OR another alternative is McAfee corporate (not the retail). Excellent centralized management (ePO), functional interface, very good detection and cleaning, and has improved its tech support.

I second the recoms.

Our company changed from McAfee corp. to Symantec - immediately put our systems to near-sleep-mode...

If I had the choice, I'd choose anything over Symantec, with McAf being my first choice.

We're in the Process of switching from Symantec to Trend micro.. much easier to manage.. Being webbased instead of MMC based.... easier to setup computers and see any red flags at a glance.just switched to a new server and the new 1 has 2 NIC's 1 facing internet and 1 facing internally.. could never get Symantec to talk to clients through the internal nic. it kept on wanting to use the external 1 and trying to use the router address for all the workstations instead of their ip's.. not a problem with Trend...and besides the fact that i was able to get Trend with 15 user license for $450 with 2 years of maintenance..

It would seem the consensus of those who replied to this post would be anything but Symantec. I'll probably use this discussion to help persuade my company away from Symantec to another product...probably Trend.

I would rather get 500 paper cuts on my hands then dip them in pickle juice than deal with Symantec ever again!!!

I swear their website is a nightmare to deal with, the phone support is a phone tree hell and once you think you MIGHT get to the right area you're gonna spend time on hold or in transfer hell (Just this week for example, 3+ hours to get help on what should have been a simple problem) ... evil evil evil company!

If you want more examples, oh I can give them to you.

Our support ended and we got some info crossed with our finance folks and it didn't get renewed, which is fine by me, I am shopping around for a new anti-virus for our office ... I'll make another post for it, but if you have any suggestions hit me up!

I too used to use Symantec exclusively then I started switching to Trend. Liked Trend's SMB products very much. When I changed jobs and had to look at a antivirus solution for almost 2000 stations and servers, I ended up with AVG after evaluating Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, and AVG. Never had used AVG much before and liked it's client footprint compared to the others, it's control granularity from the admin console, and it's price(AVG, in our situation, turned out to be half the cost of the others).

Also, Symantec, McAfee, Trend, and some of the others have licensing models that kind of suck. When I was looking to protect an Exchange server for 500 users out of my 2000, Symantec's model would have dictated I had to have purchased to cover the entire 2000 users with "Exchange" protection. McAfee was the same way and I believe Trend also was the same. Computer Associates would have been by far the cheapest because their model just needed one server license to cover the one Exchange server. So in essense, I could have gotten my Exchange server covered for about $100.00(list price) no matter if I had 5 or 500 users. I did, however, decide to keep everything AVG. AVG just licensed it's email protection for the amount of users I needed (didn't have to license my entire 2000 users for th 500 I needed covered for email).

I have used AVG too and do like the footprint but do not like the management side of the product.

It sounds like your particular situaion was unique and a product suite from the big three would not meet your unique licensing needs. You probably could have built your solution out of individual products from the big three but that still would have been expensive compared to AVG.

Overall, I think Trend meets most situations and is priced better than Symantec.
