this might not be the forum for this question, but here goes anyway.

i would like to put some form of indicator for sales quantities over a 12 month period. For example, i have a table with a item number and 12 columns, each with that respective months sales. It is important for me to create a report/query, where i can see if the sales are increasing or decreasing - and identify that through some form of indicator.

is this possible? any thoughts?

In a report you could, eg. use something like

"If ValueA > ValueB Then"

and then choose a different font color, italics, insert a "+" or "-", etc. in the code of the "OnFormat" event.

Against what value do you want to compare? Previous month, same month previous year, average?

There are lots of possibilities but the best way depends on the circumstances.

Don't use text for this. Investigate and implement charting. Ms. A. can implement a chart quite easily. Normalize the data sets and generate the chart as part of the report. a simple glance can / will easily demonstrate trends in several sets of data at once.
