Trend? -- Project Management Certifications

Lately, I have been hearing a lot of buzz about project management certifications and have done a little research. I would like to get others view on this too. Do you think they are becoming a trend and/or requirement for large job especially with federal and state governments?

Chief Information Officer Institute. It teaches a certification course on project management.
