howdy all,

I recently set up the first Travan tape drive I've ever used. When putting a tape into the drive, sometimes it rewinds completely off the reel, so no tape shows under the protective flap. At this point the tape is useless, I believe.

I can hear when it happens, and the tape drive goes completely silent, and you can usually hear it winding the tape. Sometimes the tape goes tot he beginning ok, but if I try a "Inventory" or "Label Media" it winds off the reel.

Does anyone know why this happens, and how I can prevent it? And can I repair the tapes that have unwound?? It has happened to at least 4 tapes this week, and I'm getting reluctant to feed it any more.

Respond here or to Gersen@att.net and thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Are you sure you are using the correct tapes. Just because they fit in the drive does not mean they are the correct tape. A tape drive will also retension a tape that is icorrect format, as long as it fits in the Drive. I have several remote sites that were using the wrong tapes. They heard it retensioning and thought it was working.
