hi- i am sending a digital image and i want to insert a "proof" or "watermark" over the image so it cannot be used by the recipient. later, i want to remove the marking. what is the best way to do this?
thx

...have two copies, one layered psd file for yourself, the other a flattened jpg file for sending out, this can be done via the save for web option...

...the watermarked one would then be downsampled to 72dpi as well...

...use a text layer with low opacity to create the watermark...

Just a note....

Saving for web alone will not resample the image to 72dpi.
It will change the dpi to 72, but the actual number of pixels will remain the same (you will notice the physical dimensions increase instead). No resampling occurs. The image is effectively the same resolution.

Remember, pixels is pixels. 1000 pixels is a 1000 pixels whether at 72dpi or 300dpi.

You will need to resize/resample the image in the normal means using "Image Size" under the Image menu.

You may find that if the image is large the save for web option will warn you and you anyway.
