Transparent gifs in IR7 1

How do you do transparent gifs in the new ImageReady? Before you could open up the gif, delete the colours you didn't want in there, check 'transparency' and some other settings, then save it.

What's the trick now?

Hi,

All you have to do is open the .gif then make use of any marquees (lasso, magic wand, traditional marquees) and the eraser to erase any unwanted parts, then goto WINDOW|OPTIMIZE and check the Transparency box, then if you want transparency dither choose from the 3 options and set the amount of dither you require. Then goto FILE|SAVE OPTIMIZED AS (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S) and name it and save it as a .gif file and overwrite the old picture. (You do not have to over-write it if you don't want to).

That was in previous versions ImageReady. I'm talking about ImageReady 7. The Transparency box is no longer there.

Hi,

I'm talking aboutr ImageReady 7 too. The transparency box is on the OPTIMIZE PALETTE. I think I see the problem though. When you have the OPTIMIZE palete open drag the tab so that it is it's own seperate palette with no other palettes attached to it.

At the top right of the palette there are 2 buttons (the minimise and close button) Click on the minimize button so that the palette is very thin vertically and only shows the tab with the word Optimize and shows the little buttons and the circle button with the triangle in it.

Now notice how there are 2 little arrows next to the word OPTIMIZE on the tab. Click on those arrows 4 times, or double-click the word optimise 8 times really fast. Sections will continueally pop down and one of those sections has the transparency box (second last section).

Hi,

I'm having a similar problem here, but slightly different. When I try and optimize the gif animation, the transparency somehow screws up.. let me try and explain.

In for example my 4 frame animated button, all 4 layers have transparent backgrounds (and I deleted the background frame that comes as a default in PS/IR as well), the Transparency tab is checked in the OPTIMIZE palette, and when I go to save as an optimized gif file, the final product comes out as a rather jumbled animation, where each frame is superimposed upon the next, so the final frame looks like a giant squiggle of all the previous layers and frames. In the psd file before optimization, each frame has only the specific layer showing, so I just don't get it. What exactly does this Transparency check do to the animation?

I am having a similar problem, I am new to ImageReady and I am not really sure hwat to do.

When I save the animated gif, the transparent background becomes white somehow and I don't know how to fix this or if it can be fixed.

I can answer this one actually.

First off, go to Window -> Optimize, and make sure that's checked off (it's in the third subsection). Then the Optimization palette will show up on your screen.

Make sure that the Optimize tab is selected, and notice the small vertical scroll arrows beside the word. Click the "down" arrow until the palette is completely expanded (it's 4 clicks iirc), and near the bottom of the now expanded palette, there's a checkbox labelled Transparency beside it. Check this off, and you're set. (If this isn't checked, all the transparent spaces in the image are defaulted to white instead as you found out).

Now can someone please help me...?
