Transparent gif in PaintShop Pro doesn't stay so in Illustrator

Hi,

I've been creating transparent .gifs for quite some time, but recently have had trouble with both placing and pasting into Illustrator (9.0). I create the .gif in PaintShop Pro and am successful with the transparent background. Then, whether I place or paste, the image appears with a white background in Illustrator.

Any suggestions?

Paula,
Try going to: Object/Arrange/Sendtoback with your pasted object highlighted and see if this will help.

That won't solve the lack of transparency.

Paula:

There's an old trick that works in certain Adobe apps, I'm not sure if it will work in this case. Try rotating the placed gif by a very small percentage and see if that causes the transparency to show up correctly...

Thanks so much for responding.

Yeah, I tried the ol' send to back technique, but realized I still wanted some overlap of my image onto the other elements, so really needed the transparency.

I had already tried rotating the image before I saw your post, Bert. I tried it again for kicks and it didn't work.

I wonder if a file type other than .gif is the answer? I tried a .jpg and that didn't work.

JPGs don't allow transparency. For web another transparency-friendly =) format would be PNG.

Thanks for writing, J. Coningham. I converted the file to a .png, and it still had the white background, once placed in Illustrator (and pasted). I'm about to give up. Wah.
