I am looking to create an effect that will result in a transparency fade. ex:

1
2
3
4
5
5
5
4
3
2
1

where 1 would be completly opaque and 5 would be completly transparent. the other numbers would fade into these. for web application. theEclipse

In PS6, select the 'gradient' tool (after defining the area you want to fill). At the top of the screen you will see the selected gradients. Click on the actual gradient, not the pull down next to it. Here you can edit the gradient and save it. You will see nodes on the gradient bar, bottom ones do fill colour, top ones do transparncy. If you just click near the gradient bar you can add more nodes. If using 5.5 just find your gradients and it should work the same. funkymonk B-)

thanks, but i figured that out what I need to figure out now is how to set more than one color to transparent when saving to a gif file. because when I view the image in a browser, I only (referring to my previous post) see the 5's as transparent, the 4,3,2 &1 are not semitransparent. how do I do that? theEclipse

I'm not sure you can set more than one colour to transparent. I could be wrong but I've never seen/heard of it being done. You could just try setting them as colours (not transparent) and try to work out the exact shades with the background colour of your web page..... funkymonk B-)
