Ok, I've been looking for the setting to fix this with no luck so far, I adjusted my res on Win Xp pro, but when i reverted back to what i had, the text background for my desktop items wasn't transparent anymore it had a color. How can i make them so that the text back ground is transparent?

Thanx

Did you try reverting to before by using System Restore?

Thanx, but that doesn't solve my problem. I;m trying to make it so that the whole text area of a desktop icon has a transparent background so that the text appears to be floating over your desktop.

Any help would be most appreciated.

go to --> system properties setup
--> advanced
--> performance (settings)
--> check Custome radio button
--> check the box labled "Use drop shadows for icon lables on the desktop"
--> check the box labled "Use visual styles on windows and buttons"

If you have themes turned off then this may not work. If you turned off the themes service that will disable this capability I have noticed. I had this same issue and this is the result of my trial and error. I know it works on XP home and pro.
