Hi there,

I'm having a mind blank. I have 3 boxes that overlap. I want one to be 100%, 1 to be 80%, and 1 to be 60%. Right now just using the Opacity slider in the Transparency pallette, I'm not getting what I want. The box I want at 80% goes to 80% but the box that is 100% blocks out the transparency of the 80% box. I almost want it to look like a lighter colour but am only able to use one colour. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Thanks!

Try this,

Make a swatch for your colour your using. Then double click your swatch, and in the settings for the colour switch your Colour type from Process to Spot, hit ok.

Then on your tab for colour you can change to % of your swatch.

Does that work for you?

If your using transparency, anything below the transparent object will show through. If you just want to get the color lighter in a box - without transparency. Duplicate that box and fill with solid white - no transparency - then put your 80? box over that, align them and group. When that goes over the 100% box, it'll knock it out.

You can do the same with the 60%.

If you just want the boxes to flow together. Select 2 of them and go to Object/Blend (you may want to play with Blend Options). If you're happy with that, you can then select the first blend and the 3rd box and blend them. Or you could select all 3 and blend them.
