I can't seem to change an enitre field of identically color pixels to transparent in one shot. For example, I have a lot of white space behind my gif. I want to use the paint can to turn all the white space transparent, but it won't let me. I try to change the canvas color from white to transparent but nothing happens. This is only on some graphics, and others let me change the background to transparency.

can someone tell me why this happens, and if it's possible to do this and how? thanks

ps - the only way i can seem to fix it is by erasing the white pixel by pixel using the eraser tool. That can't be right b/c I spend a lot of time doing this. There must be a better way.

use the magic wand and select all the white at once then delete

while on the topic - what is the difference between index and alpha transparency?

Yes, very thorough article - I guess it really depends on many factors which one you use when.

For now, I guess I'll just use trial and error, and as only fool with the settings when the image isn't behaving like I want it to.
