This will probably be the dumbest q you've ever encountered, but is there any way of controlling opacity of objects or even whole layers in InDesign 1? I am thinking of going to ID3; does this offer any advantages in this respect?
As a technical editor/writer/illustrator who has just started to offer a complete service (i.e. setting and design too) I find myself running into the odd embarassing impasse! Drop shadows in InDesign is another such blank, so far!
Thanks for 'dealing with the dumb'

just get ID3 /CS it does it all transperancy and drop shadow are easy.ID1/1.5 not very good and 2 was ok

I should say that I have used it for 2/3 years now. If you would like to see what it can do have a look at depositsmag.com we startyed a new mag last year and it look OK

When you update to ID2 or CS for transparency capability, be sure to read up on the transparency technical info on adobe.com. There are some rules with transparency, such as not mixing a spot color with a CMYK element in a transparency effect.
