Transparency gone wrong...

I work for montly newspapers and the problem I get is this:
Every time I use a transparent picture it leaves gray colored background in its boundaries, so it really looks bad on black background. I used png, gifs, psd... But the result is always the same. It doesnt show on regular printer and computer screen, but it shows quite well in printed newspapers. I really need help about this.

Thank you very much... It was the CYMK/RGB mix of pictures that left the grey smudges.
