I would like to have an icon with a plus in the middle. Very simple. But I can't figure out how to keep the background transparency after it is flattened. When it is flattened it automatically defaults to white. I only want the plus to show without a border or box around it for a web page. The web page background is fixed. And I want to be able to see the background around the plus.

It's probably something simple that I am not seeing....

Like anything in Photoshop there are a million ways to do this but here is the easiest. Don't flatten the image. Turn off the background layer (if you have one) so that you are just seeing transparency around your plus sign. Select save for web from the file menu. Choose .gif from the pull down file type on the right hand side, and make sure that the transparency box is checked.

That's it... click on 2up so you can preview what the gif looks like.

Good luck!
