Transparency fattens type

I'm having a problem with type converting to outlines when it touches an image that contains transparency. The transparency flattener will outline any type the image box touches. If I send the box behind the type it solves the problem when printed, but not when making a PDF.

The only solution so far is to make sure that the box that contains the image doesn't touch any type around it, but this isn't always possible.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Put your type on a separate layer.
