I'm having a bit of trouble with, as the subject suggests, transparency and white objects. Essentially what I've done is created an image with both white and colored objects, and to top it off I wanted to use an image of a scanned piece of paper with the transparency set to 'Hard Light' as on overlay, thus giving everything in the image a sort of rustic feel.
The problem that I'm having however, is that all of the colors are visibly affected by the overlay but none of the white areas are-that is, you can see the transparent layer on the colored portions, but the white portions remain stark white. What can I do about this?

Different blending modes behave in different ways, and the behavior you described is quite normal for Hard Light. Have you tried using another blend mode, such as Multiply, instead? Also try playing around with the opacity.
