I am not sure how the transparencies will print. As I have said before, that is more of a tool for Web Design than print, and if we can get it to print, it often
converts to CMYK."

This is the message I received from the graphics about how transparencies won't work when printing a two color cover (spot colors). I really need that cover having the transparencies and all the effects I placed in it. So my questions are:

Is she right?? I can never have transparencies printed in two colors?? What is the best way for me to get the effects I want?

If you quoted the person exactly, you have a big problem:

"As I have said before, that is more of a tool for Web Design than print, and if we can get it to print, it often
converts to CMYK."

The above statement indicates that someone doesn't know much. All professional print Is CMYK. It's not RGB.

If graphics is receiving print document in RGB mode, somebody is giving them improper stuff. If graphics thinks that the work should be RGB, they don't know anything.

Since this question was asked in the AI forum, about a cover, I assume that you'd be saving the work in something like eps, pdf, or tiff for inclusion in the page layout program for printing. In that case, if the transparency was set correctly, it should be ok.

This is why there should alsways be a proof run - to be sure that things can print as designed.

Sorry I didn't give you all the information. You were completely right on your statements. I did everything in Ilustrator and saved it in eps. I just wasn't sure if working with spot colors I had to do something in some way that I had no idea which way was. I know that everything is supposed to be CMYK and I am trying to get my boss understand it. My boss is not a graphic designer. She is a very nice lady that works to the community and I volunteer once a month for her. We are a non-profit organization and this work is done for free. That's why we simply can't change the graphics. Sounds terrible but is the truth. Since this time they wrote me back I can have something to show to my boss.

I forgot to reinforce about the proof that you mentioned. How easy could be my life if I could have a proof. They don't help at all. They don't print a proof before!!! Believe it or not!! I am always afraid about my message not getting to the point for the readers and also my portfolio!!!
