Hi.

I was hoping you fine folks could shed some new light on these tired eyes.

When trying to restore a file (or group of files), I'm getting the following message:

Media Error

Translation Error on media on HA: 0 ID: 5 LUN: 0 Quantum DLT4000. Please consult the Admin manual.......

The backups are running fine with no error messages and a sucessful status when finished.

We are backing up Netware 5 servers as well as selected directories/folders on a couple of Win2K servers.

Any ideas or suggestions as to how this might be solved will be and is greatly appreciated as it's a general waste of time to back up data when it can't be restored.

TIA

HiAres69. Thanks for the rapid response.

I'm running BE version 9 build 4019 on a Netware 5.0 platform.

I've looked at Verita's KB and the only thing I found was that it might be a problem with the fast verify option and to try turning it off in the backup exec config file. I did this and restarted BE with no luck. I will certainly keep searching their KB and continue to hope that someone will have seen this brought up before and give me some "real world" hints as to where to look.

I was wondering if it might be bad tapes? I would think that is this were the case, though, I would also have back up problems as well as restore problems. Just a thought.

Thanks in advance once again!

Hi all.

Here's a quick update.

I turned off "Fast_File_Access" (changed the value from 1 to 0 in the BESRVR.CFG file). This seemed to have solved the Translation Error problem, but now I'm running a restore job to restore a single file and it's up to the 4 hour mark. All is running and it seems to have found the proper directory, etc, but is it normal to take this long to restore a single file?

I'm wondering if the latest build (4175, I believe) would solve the problem. I'm hesitant to install it due to BE's history of causing more problems with an upgrade than it fixes. Any thoughts?

TIA

Me again.

I meant to say in the last post that we're currently running BE version 9.0 build 4019 on a NetWare 5.0 server and I'm wanting the pros/cons of upgrading this to build 4175. I have had some problems in the past after upgrading and hoped to get some feedback.

Thanks again!
