Hi all,

I have a Transformer model which contains a dimension LOCATION with 3 levels: REGION / COUNTRY / SITE.

I want to create a view to apply on a userclass to only see:

ASIA / JAPAN / TOKYO
and
EUROPE / FRANCE / PARIS

Do you have any idea on how to do that?

(I have tried to exclude all other categories but I have issues when new sites are created)

Many thanks,

Graham.

Have you tried apexing on Regions, which will only give the userclass the view they require?

Yes I did, but the problem is that APEX only allows to see ONE category whereas I want to select 2 of them.

I opened a call to Cognos.
They told me that what I wanted to do was to possible except by excluding all the unwanted categories... which has to be done at eah refresh of the cube in order to be able de exclude new categories as well....

gset - how important is the hierarchy of the dimension 'Location'? If not important, a workround could be the addition of a calculated column in the data source for 'SITE' along the lines of "if SITE = 'Paris' then 'Paris' else if SITE = 'Toyko' then 'Toyko' else 'OTHER', creating a dimension (with manual levels of Region & Country if required) excluding 'OTHER' and then point the user class to this dimension, omitting the regular location. Obviously this will increase cube size and build time.

In fact, the LOCATION dimension was just an example.
We have ot create more than 100 profiles which have restrictions on 3 dimensions, eahc if which having 10000 chlid categories.

We finally succeeded using a macro:
1) Generate all categories (in order to retreive all new ones -> mandatory for next step)
2) Exclude all unwanted categories for each profile
3) Generate cube

The performance is good.

Thanks to everyone for his help.

Graham.
