We're looking at a new system to replace our existing server - a domain controller / active directory.

I can do the promotion of the domain controller when we get the new system - but my biggest concern at this point is getting Goldmine moved over to the new server once its ready.

The server name is going to need to change, but I will work to keep the drive mappings the same. Other than client change needs, what do I have to do within all the GM configurations to get all this to work? I've seen my current server name in these places.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Are you on SQL or dBase? If on SQL you'll need to alter the BDE Alias to point to the correct server.

You will probably want to download the linkdoc mover from as this helps you to globally change the path\name of attached files - just in case any are unc mapped.

Richard.

Sorry, forgot to mention that. We're on dBase. Thanks, Mike

Mike,

OK in that case edit the GM.INI and make sure it points to the correct location.

Then enter your username and password into GoldMine and hold down the CONTROL key and click OK, continuing to hold down CONTROL. You should get a database listing box come up - you can release the CONTROL key now. On the databases listed right click and select properties and point to the correct (new) location.

If you dont get that but it goes straight into GM don't worry, just go to File>Open database and do the same as above.

Regard,

Richard.

Excellent, thanks for all your help folks! We're just about ready to order the new server - I will keep monitoring this thread .. if you have more to add - I'll be watching.

When the time comes, I'll drop back in and use your ideas and give you that "Thanks for your valuable posts"

At least I'm a little more at ease about the process now.

Mike

Oh, RichardY, does having dbase files rather than sql mean that I don't need the LinkDoc Mover utility?

I noticed too that there are some \\servername references in the username ini files. Are there other places that the servername would be referenced (other than where your latest post explains)?

Thanks again !

You should also check out Link Magic

Although not free, it has a lot more functionality, including the ability to find lost links whose location you don't know, and to move them all to the new server with just a few button clicks from you

It is free to demo on my web site
