I am going to go on a trip this weekend and I want to be able to use my Outlook 2003 file and download my emails instead of using webmail services. I was wondering if it is as simple as copying my Outlook.pst file to the other computer and then copying it back when I am done? Is there anything else to consider? Will it change my settings when I copy back to my regular computer or are settings in another file?

thanks for any tips,

Dawn

I think there are many things to consider. you don't mention this is personal or company email so I'll assume is company.

1. You can copy the .PST to the other computer but if your mail is coming from an Exchange server, you won't be able to download any new emails unless you connect to that server via a VPN through the internet. Ask your IT if they have that capability.

2. When using a .PST, not only you have to move it to the other computer, you also have to configure Outlook to deliver email to that location (See Tools | Email Accounts | View/Change Accounts | lower left corner of screen.

3. Any changes you may have done to the toolbars are in outdat.cmd

4. You'll have to export the rules, if any. I don't think they "live' in the .PST, but I'm not sure.

That's all I can think of.

Thank you Jtorres, this is actually for a home computer. Sorry I didn't mention that. So, all I really need to do is transfer the .pst file over and re-set my email settings? (I don't care about the toolbar or rules, it is only for a couple of days.)

Thanks,

Dawn
