Okay, well I connected my router to two computers, one on a wireless card (my laptop), and one on my Ethernet card, my desktop, I have a Inexq router, and i want to set up a network drive, or a filesharing thing, but only between these two computers,I tried to map a network drive, it didnt work, and i also tried the'Add a network place wizard', it didnt work, what do i do??, How do i do this???

you must share a drive or folder on one of the two computers, then you can make a drive mapping on the other computer.

what do you mean, do u want me to right click C;// and press ' share and securitey', that is what i did, but whenever i try to map a network drive an error message always comes up, what should i do???

Can you ping from one PC to the other?

If so, then goto your desktop and right click on the directory you want to share. Select Sharing. Give it a meaningful name, e.g. share!

On your other machine you will need to map a drive using IP address mapping rather than names because it probably won't understand. From the command-line you enter something like as follows where 192.168.1.2 is the IP Address of the Desktop:

net use * \\192.168.1.2\share /user:sharer "password"

Where sharer is a user on the desktop pc and "password" is the user's password.

You might need to do some tinkering around with XP Firewall but I doubt it. IT works fine for me on my home machine. You can do this through the network place as well but you must specify the names, usernames and passwords explicitly.

ok what do you mean by pinging it?, and also what do you mean by share a directory and naming it, and what ip address should i use, i tried mine, but it didnt work, thanks
