Transferring files from win98 system to winXP system help

Need help in trying to transfer files from a win98 system to a laptop running XP. About the only thing I do have is the cross over cable. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

If you have network cards in both machines, create a 2 computer peer to peer network. Connect them with your crossover cable and follow these steps

Once your network is set up, use XP's 'File and Settings Transfer Wizard'
