I am installing a new web server for my business. What is the best way to copy all of the files from my old server to my new one? The new server is Red Hat 9, the old one is I think Red Hat 6.2.

Mainly I just want to copy the different domains straight over.

I would much appreciate any help, thanks.

If you can get both servers online on the same network then you can use ftp to get them. Ftp has the mget command to get wildcard file(s).

Another method I've used to to create a zip file form the desired directory down, transfer the zip file to the new server using ftp and unzip it. The directory structure is recreated.

Yet another is to tar the directory and files you want to transfer. Then, after transferring the tar file, do a tar -xvf./fileame and your files will be written.

So there are many ways. Depends on the type of access you have available.

Good luck.

Thanks, I will give one of those a try today!
