Hello,

I'm eliminating a dhcp server and setting up a relay for the VLAN to point towards another DHCP server.

Currently, everything wen't smoothly but in order for all of the clients to start pointing to the new server, I have to do manual releases and renews.

Is there anything I can do on the server end to grab all of the clients over from the old server and have them point to the new server?

Since your clients are still on the same subnet, you should not have to manually release and renew. What should happen is when the lease is at about 83% (don't remember the actual percentage for the lease time) the client will look to another DHCP server to renew the lease. As long as the DCHP broadcasts get forwarded to the new DHCP servers (And they have a scope set up for that subnet) the client will renew with the new DHCP server. Should new clients come on line the DHCP server (assuming MS) will note lease an IP from its pool that is already in use. The DHCP server will ping the IP before leasing it. What you have to do as an Admin is watch the DHCP scopes and clear any "BAD_ADDRESS" entries in the scope. The "BAD_ADDRESS" will go away when all the clients have renewed with the new DHCP server...
