Hi all.

I have a 3300 on release 4.2 using analog extensions and analog trunks.
When an incoming call is answered and dropped there is no problem.
Problems arise in the below scenario:
1. An incoming call is answered at extn A and transferred to extn B (un-announced transfer)
2. Extn B rings and does not answer the transferred call
3. The call recalls extn A
4. Extn A does not answer.
5. Call continues to ring at extn A until answered and there will be a busy tone from the trunk. If not answered the call rings for as long as possible.
As the scenario repeats all trunks eventually become busy leading to denial of service.

Special Note - the caller will have hung up in 2,3 or 4 above.
How can this be resolved?
I have tried changing No Answer Timers in COS for both trunks and extensions and couldn't resolve the issue.

Check Answer reversal/call clear forward on the trunk (telco).
Also check Trunk Circuit Descriptor, check values of these:
- Calling Party Disconnect
- Ignore Far End Reversal During Seizure
- Ignore Answer Supervision
- Release Supervision Expected

Your issue is due to the analog trunks not receiving disconnect signalling when the outside caller hangs up.

The call will continue to ring on the system until answered.

The System option for Final Ring Time Out should apply and drop the call when the timer expires but that does not appear to be working according to your notes.

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex… It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.

I am sure the issue is not on the telco for the following reasons:
1. An incoming call rings the answer point and the caller hangs up (or timesout) the telco releases and the answer point stops ringing.
2. An incoming call rings the answer point and the answer point answers, conversation takes place, answer point or caller hangs up, telco release and trunk is freed
I would say analog trunks are receiving disconnect signalling when the outside caller hangs up for these two conditions.
The problem kicks in when there has been a transfer and no answer.
Please assist further.

1. When the incoming call ring's the answer point and the caller hangs up this isn't to do with the disconnect signalling, it has to do with the line not sending ring voltage any longer.
2. The answer point hangs up thus the call is released.

What you need to do for a test is call in to the answer point, answer the call and then have the far end caller hangup. The answer point is to stay on the phone, what should happen is the answering phone should get disconnected.

What is the carrier using as their disconnect method? Do they have one?

In Australia we have to rely on busy tone to disconnect the call most of the time as line reversal is not available.
This can be unreliable.
