What hardware do I need to import a short VHS video clip from my VHS Video Recorder to my laptop?

The VHS machine is a standard one with SCART and video inputs and outputs on the front.

My laptop is a Toshiba Sat Pro 6100 P4 with 1GB RAM and 16MB Video RAM.

The clip would only be 10-20 seconds in length so I can import it into Director. I am new to this so what software would I need also to do edit the clip/turn it into a usable Windows file.

If anyone could give me some advice on how best to do all this then I would be very grateful.

You’ll need a video digitiser (capturer) something like this:
Or if you have a DV camera with analogue video input you could use it as a digitiser.

Your captured video clip would be AVI and you can import it in Director as it is. However Director handles QuickTime much better.

There are so many video editing software titles about and it’s down to your personal choice. I’d go for Premier and QuickTime Pro for editing, AfterEffects for composting, and Cleaner for exporting.
