My Dad just got a new hard drive. He is on a network and the new disk is formatted Fat32. How do you copy the OS and files to new drive. Is there software for this.. I did a backup to the new drive. Why can't i just boot from new drive and whala! Obviously, this did not work. Could i Zip and then explode to the new drive. I'm lost. He does'nt have a CD-RW+ disk so i can't image it or make a iso. Does anyone know were i can get software to do this. Master to slave. I can backup to another computer But, how do you restore to other computer with only Dos.

Symantec makes a product called Ghost and others are out there.I'm sure there will be more posts here.

If there was no CD with the drive, barebones, go to the drive mfd's site and get their utils. i.e. Seagate=Seatools, WD=Discwizard etc. load on the current HD, new as slave and zero the new drive out. then go through the "install new drive" and select "make new drive a boot drive" or their verbage. When done you will be instructed to rejumper and replace the old on the same connector with the new.

In conclusion I ran the DataLifeguard tools from Western digitlal. But, it did not copy all files so i had to use my Xp cd to do a repair install. It worked except some of the programs got lost in translation. Going from a C: drive to E: throws everyting out of wack. Most programs recogizize C: Unless you tell to. it sees everyting as E:
I hope this made sense and might help someone else out. Thanks everyone for the help
