I recently replaced a Partner with a Merlin Magix. It is a rel.4.0 The system has 1 TDL card and 4 16-ETR cards to run the old partner Phones. The 2nd cabinet has an LS/GS card and the Merlin messaging 6 port card. When the lines get busy, we have a problem where an answered call can't be transferred. The transfer button and direct voice mail button both become temporarily ineffective. Is there something I need to add to the config to accomodate that many ETR cards? Also the system is in key mode, if that matters. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I see 1 possible problem. According to page 52/320 of the Merlin Magix Installation Guide:

"In Key mode, the MERLIN MAGIX 491D1 and the MERLIN LEGEND 391C1 power supplies
can generally support up to three 016 MLX, 024TDL (MAGIX only), or 016 ETR modules, as
long as no DID, OPT or E&M Tie Line modules are in the same carrier".

Now this may or may not have any bearing on the buttons freezing up, but it might be worth investigating.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Quick sidebar question.

How do the users like the changes in the way that the Partner telephones operate? There are quite a few differences in how the telephones operate now that they are connected to a Merlin Magix.

One of the site's top advisors (merlinman) generated a chart that lists all the changes. While cost is an issue, many times it simply better to scrap the Partner phones and upgrade to units in the digital 4400 series.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Yes, they do work quite differently on the Magix. User reaction has been mixed. Some adapt easier than others. I will do some more checking on the ETR capacity and try some testing. One ETR has no stations on it yet, so maybe I can pull it for now. Thanks for the tip!

Please report back and let us know how things go. [smile]

The other thing to look at is this: when you press transfer on a magix, it temporarily grabs an available intercom (SA button) dialtone to call the party you are transfering the call to. If you are out of SA buttons, then you cannot transfer the call. If you have the system keyed, the phone probably only has (2) SA buttons (this is the default key configuration). If that's the case, you'll need to add additional SA buttons to accomodate the situation.

Thanks T-boy! That may very well be the case. The problem only happens during heavy traffic, so those int buttons are probably both tied up. All calls get answered by the AA and are then transferred to the phones. I wish I'd thought of that. We did add extra SA buttons to x10 (4424D+) but not to any of the old Partner 18D sets.

I recommend that you make that third SA button Outbound Only (OO). That will make the trouble go away forever.
Mike

Thanks Mforrence. We did that on the operator station. I don't know why I didn't think of it for the 18D's. Brain Fart on my part I guess.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I added the extra sa and outbound only buttons and that seems to have cured our trouble. Another local tech who was helping me was kicking himself for not catching that too. Sometimes the obvious eludes us!

Score another victory for Mike. [thumbsup2]
