I have a BCM 3.7 with Call Pilot. If an inbound caller has gone to a mailbox, they have the option of pressing 0 for the front desk. However, they can't enter another extension number to transfer to. (For example, they've called person A and gone to VM but they know person B can also answer their question.)

Can this be done?

You can set the extension to have a personal attendant rather than the reception. This way if ext 225 has a personal assitant at extension 226 extension 225 can be set to go to 226 when the callers presses 0 they will got to extension 226.

Hope this helps

Marshall

Thanks for the tip, but that's not what I'm looking to do. I'd like for the caller to be able to enter ANY extension that they want to go to -- 226, 227, 228. In other words, if they know another extension, they could just enter it. I've tried entering the extension, *, **, etc., and nothing seems to work. And I can't find any kind of setting in the BCM or Call Pilot.

Our old Avaya system allowed a transfer to any extension.

if you enable return to auto attendant, they can press # and get the prompt to enter an extension, but I believe only after they leave a message

OK.. If you enable return to auto attendant the caller can press * and then they will be prompted to enter another extension.

The problem is they are going to a mailbox not an auto attendant.

I would say at a guess they are being transfered by the operator the extension has a call forward to voicemail on no answer. The call is forwarded to the individuals mailbox and if they dial * now or 8* it will begin a voicemail command.

With return to AA on you should be able to press for example *221 during the greeting and transfer to another extension.

Exactly... Even without going through the attendant.
I tried it on our system. Once the voice mail box picks up press *, the auto attendant will come on and say, "Recording Erased" then she will prompt for the standard option to enter an extension or press # for directory...

Thanks. I didn't have "Return to AA" turned on. That seems to accomplish what I wanted to do. (Although, I'll have to say our old Avaya system made this work easier -- you could directly transfer using the VM system instead of having to go back to an auto-attendant.)

Yeah.. In some ways the Avaya stuff is better, but I think internally, Nortel mail products are more intuitive in its integration.
