We have one file server connected to a Linksys SRW2024. It is connected by fiber to two Linksys SRW2024's and 2 SRW248G4's. We have excellent, normal transfer speeds on all computer/switches that have a one gigabit connection. On the 248g4's, we get strange lags. Sometimes 100MB file transfers will take 7-10 min. when plugged into the SRW248 running 100mb/s whereas they take 7-10 sec if plugged into the 1000mb/sec ports. Flow control is off. The server is a new dell poweredge w/ a gb nic plugged into a gb port. Sometimes the 100mb/sec transfers will go fast for a few sec, then stall for minutes, then finish fast, among other variations. I've checked cabling, tried different switches, upgraded firmware...What's going on?

TIA,
Scott

Just a hunch - set the port that the uplink is on and the in the 248G4 to 1000MB/Full Duplex and HARD CODE it - not just auto-negotiation. This should not be the problem, but I've seen it before.

thanks for the tip...i'll be back on-site tomorrow and check it out. I'll let you know what i find.
