Good Day All,

I know an inbound call can be transferred off premise, but can a call that was initialized from the Norstar then be transferred. Norstar w/ 5.0 SW, PRI and 4 copper's on switch. If anyone has made this happen, please share experience..

Thanks in advance...

Don't know of a way to do it, tried Conf it lets you connect but once you RLS then the call drops.

External call forwarding of a call intiated internally is the same as an in bound one. I know it works on 6.1 but haven't tried 5.0 Set up the routing service as usual. Don't forget call redirect must on for the extension and supervised lines. Then F4 + route code + number

telemarv,

Thanks. Why are you referencing routing service? Would that be for a specific external transfer? Would we need to pre build these in order for it to happen? Was more looking for a user to initialize as they would with a call recieved from the outside opposed to numbers being pre-determined..

routing service is required to initiate the transfer. All the routing service does is give you access to your outside lines similar to line pool codes. Use an unused number such as 7 to access the route. Call forward external sets up a conference call using the current line and one in a route (no other way). So the transfer actually takes up 2 lines. The specifics of where the call is forwarded is done at the set (by the user) using F4 call forward.

If you are looking to manually transfer calls externally, you might want to consider using a Centrex (or Telco) transfer instead using the link feature F71.

External transfer, and External call forwarding are not the same thing. In one scenario (external transfer) a call comes in and you can press transfer, an external line, then the digits, and hang up.--This cannot be done with a call initiated from the Norstar, and redirect does not have to be enabled, though the lines do need DS.

Telemarv is describing external call fowarding of an extension. Meaning you dial the extension, not the external number. I dont know if this can be done from an internaly initiated call or not, but I assume so since he says it can.

Telemarv: did you figure out what the problem was regarding thread799-917953

Telemarv- a question: Can you use your method without dialing an extension? The user initiating the external xfer can just enter F4 from their phone and it go's, or do they enter an extension number to a phone that has been forwarded?

Bk the problem has been solved on my original thread. User was neglecting to put in the the route destination code at the beginning of the "forward to" dial string. Therefore getting the error access denied. You're right there is a difference between external call transfer and external call forward.

External call forward of DN uses routing service and F4 with a destination code and phone number. It DOES work on a call initiated within Norstar. I tried it at the site I was having trouble at. Ie: you're on a call you initiated and then tranfer that call to a DN that has been forwarded. So calls initiated, calls that come in to the Norstar and are transferred to the DN and intercom calls (from DN to DN) all are forwarded externally using F4. The first 2 scenerios take up 2 lines as the norstar does a conference to create the forward. So external call forwarding is resource heavy.

External call transfer without using a forwarded DN can be done with a Centrex transfer (a Telco feature). Or in the voice mail with a CCR extrnal tranfer point. Again its a telco feature being used. In either case the line is flashed F71 (link) and the destination is dialed. I haven't tried it but i don't why you couldn't automate the process using a speed dial button.

The call that you initiated, was it an outside call or internal call. Because like bkride said if I call outside the system then try to Transfer that call to an internal ext with External Call Forward set up I get Access Denied. But if someone from outside calls me then I Transfer to the internal phone the call forward works no problem.

I have it working with all 3 possible conditions. Intercom to intercom, incoming call and call initiated from within.

Yes it does work on a MICS 5.0 with PRI, was at one site today that uses this setup

Just make sure that the set performing the Feature 4 call forward is programmed for access to the PRI pool and that redirect ring is set.

Forwarding exernally out of an extension is accomplished by using feature 4 then the route number and telephone number.

It works quite well when setup correctly.

I still can not get it to work. Everything works except if I make an outside call then try to Transfer to another outside number it will not go. Also tried it with the Call Forward same thing happened. If some one calls me no problem it works fine.

Hawks- what software version are you trying on? Ever since this thread, I have been trying it on various versions.

I found I cant transfer a call Initiated in the system on 4.1, but with 6.1 I did get it to work, confirming telemarvs posts. With 4.1 I could only get it to work for incoming calls, or calls to intercoms.

With 6.1 it worked every way I tried-: f4 with dest codes, and even by just hitting the soft transfer, picking a line, and another number..these were both with a call I initiated out of the system to start with.

Link transfer also worked on an initiated call with 6.1, but that may have always been the case...I cant remember.

I am about to install a MICS in a Real Estate company who is moving to larger quarters. They currently use 20 copper in a comdial DSU. All of their incoming calls are answered by the attendant and either transferred to internal desk sets or externally (using transfer service from the CO) to employee’s cell phones. Selling them a voice mail system is not an option.

I am trying to determine if an MICS with PRI only is able to transfer an inbound call to an external number.
Yesterday I visited a large vendor (full page ad in The Mart) who could not answer this question. I see BagsNYC (the threaded starter) says it can be done.

I need to know: Is it dependant on the type of PRI (provider specific)? Do I need “Released Line Trunking” if available?
Are two channels being used while the transferred call is in progress? Does the attendant have to initiate a conference and then remove herself (unsupervised conference) or just transfer (fea 70)?

Please explain what the attendant must do to transfer an incoming call to an external public phone.

Sorry for my ignorance, Thanks in advance

You can easily transfer calls on the MICS. As long as the extension that will transfer calls is allowed under capabilities.

All the reception has to do is press transfer (the same as an internal transfer) then enter 9 (or some other line access digit) +the remote number.
When reception hangs up the transfer would be completed.

During the entire call 2 channels on the PRI would be used. You wouldn't need any special type of PRI circuit since you would be using the MICS to perform the tranfer.

Shark69: the subject of this thread was can calls initiated from within the system be transferred off site, Incoming calls have never been a problem to transfer, and there are various ways to do it. If you are unfamiliar with this basic principle I would suggest that you find a qualified Vendor to complete or assist you in the install.

TecTel: Thanks for your helpfull response. I needed to make sure I didn't advise these people to get a PRI and have it not do what they needed at the cutover. I could have lost my job.

bkrike: As stated in my post, I visited a major vendor in my area who's techs could not say for certain that a PRI could transfer inbound calls off site. I also called 4 out of area vendors who could not say for certain. I turned to the experts on this board to confirm the ability.
If I could have found a "qualified vendor" (who was able to answer that basic question) I wouldn't have needed to post here.

Sorry to all if the question was too basic or off topic.

You miss the point of my statement. It was not that your post was off topic, or to basic. It was in response to the fact that you stated you are installing a MICS for some unsuspecting customer, yet it sounds as though you are unfamiliar with the basic workings of Norstar. As an active member of this forum, I can attest that the aforementioned situation happens disturbingly often, which is dreadful for the customer, and a disservice to the Nortel product line . Perhaps I am incorrect and you are just unfamiliar with PRI’s. For your customers sake I hope this is the case.

As for you trying to call vendors in your area with your questions: would you really expect them to just give you free tech support over the phone? I think not. I have been on the receiving end of such calls. Once the callers intentions are clear a quick “I don’t know” is the surest way to get on with your day.
