I hope I'm in the correct forum. I just got a new computer and the old computer is setting right next to it. The new OS is Window XP and the old is Windows 98 latest edition. I would like to take all my files off the old and put them on the new. I would also like to have my e-mail contacts list on the new PC. Also, all my favorites in Internet Explorer. I would like to eventually take evertying off the old computer so I can give it to my son. Thanks, everyone.

If you have network cards in both computers you can use a crossover cable to connect them. There are other ways to do what you want but this is the ethernet way.

But you probably need to learn how to save your addresses, favorites, and cookies to floppy. And to the hard drive while you are at it.

Thanks, Franklin97355 and Ed Fair. How do I determine if my PC's have network cards in them? Also, where can I get step by step instructions on how to save addresses, cookies and favorites. I appreciate the help.

Network cards for ethernet currently are supplied with a single jack that looks like a telephone jack but wider to accomodate 8 wires, which you can see in the jack.

You get help in help. Under file in browser or outlook express.

Just went through this although it was because of motherboard death in one machine.

I put the HD out of the bad machine in a HD case, and connected it to the new computer via USB. Copying files from one drive to another was straightforward.
