Hello and happy Friday all. Is there a way to transfer a caller directly into someone's voice mail without ringing their phone?
Thank you!

sure, I set up a CTI route point with a *XXXX ( or how many digits you need for internal calling) then created a voicemail profile with the correct pilot/css.

no you can call *XXXX and it goes into the voice mail with out ringing the phone.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again "iwont". I may not have explained myself clearly. Let's say I answered a call for Billy on his line. The caller wants Billy's voice mail. Can I transfer the caller to Billy's v-mail without ringing his phone?
Thanks again!

Yes, you would hit transfer then dial (in my case) *XXXX then transfer one more time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again, again. I tried that but the v-mail will say "please hold" and transfer the call to the phone first and ring it and after 4 rings it'll go to v-mail.
I really apprecaite your help. I think as you, I'm an old time phone guy and usaully could figure this out with NEC, Nortel, ROLM etc, but I'm still learning the CCM and think it's a little light on phone logic and features.

I think you need to set up that CTI route point with a *XXXX.

Hope this helps.

I wonder if I misunderstood you. Do I actually have to put an asterisk (*) before the extension number?

Yes, Star (*XXXX) .

example: you have numbers of 1000 -1999, you would put in the directory number of *1XXX in a CTI Route point, pick the correct partions/css, then forward this to voice mail with the check box.

you will also need a voice mail pilot and profile with the number Unity uses and the correct partition.

Under the Directory number settings on your CTI RP choose this voice mail profile.

I hope I explained this clearly, I'm not the best at this.

Hope this helps.

It doesn't have to be an asterisk *, it can be anything you want it to be. The asterisk is the most common entry however.

I believe you are missing a key component to make this work. You will indeed want to create a VM Profile, but you must also put XXXX under the "Voice Mail Box Mask" field in the VM profile you just created. This will get rid of the * as it gets sent to Unity. Use the same Pilot as your regular VM Profile.

Create the CTI route point as described in the previous post, make sure to use the new VM Profile you just created for the *XXX DN piece of the CTI route pointe. This CTI route pointe needs to be forward all to VM.

When you have a call and transfer to *1080, it will hit the CTI route pointe, be forwarded to Unity. Before it goes to Unity, it hits the VM profile, which tells it to strip the *. Unity will then receive the call with DN 1080 and get to the proper VM box without ringing the entension.

Thanks to everyone for the replies! Whew! Sure is allot of work for something that's been so simple on PBX's for years! I'll have to turn this over to our Cisco Call Manager/Unity trained Network Engineer for her to decipher.
