Transfer a caller directly to voicemail

I have a question regarding transferring a caller directly to someone's voicemail without ringing their phone on a Modular Messaging vmail system.

I was looking through the threads and found one related to this (thread1496-1189617) where it speaks of 2 options to do this:

1. If your telephone system provides a FAC
2. If your telephone system does not provide a FAC.

I checked my PBX FAC programming and there is a code for "Transfer to Voicemail Access Code", but I'm not sure how to use it. When you have a caller on the line, what keys do you press on the phone to utilize the feature? I tried pressing hold, and then dialing the FAC, but that did not work. Do you have to assign the FAC to a button on the phone....if so, what type of button is it?

Currently, I use the option 2, where I transfer the caller to the modular messaging access number and then press ## follwed by the appropriate mailbox number. This is quite a few keypresses and users quite often don't wait for the voice mail to answer before pressing the ## and end up fouling things up.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You would hit transfer and the code and then the mailbox number.

I tried that and I get a fast busy after I enter the FAC. Is there anything more involved in getting this working? Do you have to associate the FAC with the Mod Msg access number in programming somewhere? The channel partner that installed the system for us only explained option 2 as the way to transfer direct to vmail. Is there any reason why option 1 would not work?

Thanks,

PBX Software Packages:

• QSIG-Supplementary Services, QSIG Interworking with DCS,

QSIG rerouting, QSIG transfer into Voice Mail, QSIG Value-

Added comes with an optional "Advanced Networking Package."

• DCS+ for Multiple PBX Support (Refer to Section 9.0)

This option is only required for networking (multiple PBXs)

8.5 Support for Transfer to QSIG Voice Mail feature. In order to

provide support for the Transfer to QSIG Voice Mail feature on your QSIG

integrated MAS solution, you need to ensure the following criteria are met:

? Your switch will need to be running Definity software R10 or later.

? You will need to have the following features enabled on your switch:

o ISDN-PRI or ISDN-BRI

o QSIG Supplementary Services

o Transfer to QSIG Voice Mail

? A Feature Access code for Transfer to QSIG Voice Mail will need to be

configured.

? Your MAS Voice Server will need to be using the QSIG-MWI hunt group

integration as described in this document.

Example on how the feature works:

? Extension 7001 has voice mail but calls received are forwarded to

extension 7002 rather than directly to voice mail.

? Callers to 7001 are answered at 7002 but the caller wishes to leave a

voice mail for the person at 7001.

? The person at 7002 transfer the caller directly to the voice mail for

7001 by pressing the transfer button, then the code for transfer to voice

mail (*8,*50, etc.), then presses transfer again.

? The caller immediately hears the greeting of 7001 (no additional

ringing) and can subsequently leave a message.

The important part of that is that the call needs to go to a extension first, then to coverage, then the person that picks up the call out of coverage can send the call on to voice mail. But if the coverage person gets the call direct, the 'transfer to voice mail' feature will not work.

This has been a big issue for those of us who came up through the ranks of partner/merlin/ip office et al where "transfer to VM/Direct VM" is easy to set up or is a standard feature.

I use 2 options on MM:

1. A 'goto cover' button. One dials (or selects a transfer to) a station, then hits a programmed 'goto cover' button. CAVEAT: If the station has a cover path OTHER than MM/Audix, this is no good.

2. Build a Caller Application on the MAS where the person dialing or transferring can manually dial the mailbox number then leave a message/transfer the caller to their greeting. You would then need an x-ported station on the PBX with a corresponding Association on the MAS.

Good luck.
