I am just wondering if the transcender's for the cisco ccna exam will be any help for this exam.

i say nay~

CCNA transcender is good as "just another supplemental study". You may get 2 if u are lucky 3 very simular exam questions on actual exam.
Furthermore, type of questions they ask is bit off (direction) from what they ask in real exam.

same with boson. Didn't find them very helpful with wrong answers in their practice tests. and the real test was much different.

I agree with microbyte, the transcender exams use overkill in the cisco arena. I have used them and will probably not use them again when it comes to cisco. Questions are off track and I never saw the importance of what they were asking in relation to the acutal test. In some cases the transcenders were much harder than the actual exam but who actually cares about the difficulty of the practice exam vs reality if the practice exam is not a valid check on learning tool. I would not recommend the transcenders for cisco.

So. I am assuming that Cisco is more based on your knowledge of the router. So the simulations that are on the test do you have to actually configure a router. I guess what am trying to figure out should I concentrate more on learning the book or more on concentrating on the router configurations if that makes any sense.

For the CCNA you can get away with the book, possibly. The true test that cisco puts forward is based upon the premise that you have been working on cisco devices and now want to take the next step and obtain a certification. The reality of the situation is quite different and cisco has recognized this with its two tier approach towards the ccna cert.

My opinion: experience with the devices in the cisco ccna is easily obtained either at work or through ebay. 2 routers and switch costs pervail throughout this forum, just search and there is an equipment list ready for your level. The simulators are ok. UNTIL you are trying a command that you know should work and the sim does not recognize it as a valid command.

For the test you have to confiigure a router. When I took mine it was RIP, I do not know what they are having you configure for the current exam, check the forums it is there.

For test you need to be comfortable with configuring the router as well as the book knowledge. Rumor has it if you fail the simulation on the exam you fail the test, regardless how well you did on the book knowledge. Book knowledge will also include questions along the lines of " Which IOS command will allow you to see this output?"

Use the Cisco Press books, that is where the exams are pulled from. Use this forum and get some equipment.

CCNA Exam: 604-801
Access Lists, Theory and Implementation
Routing Protocols: (Theory, Implementation, Troubleshooting via Sims)
OSPF
IGRP
RIP
EIGRP
Frame Relay (Theory, Implementation, Troubleshooting)
ISDN (Theory, Implementation, Troubleshooting)
Subnetting (Class A/B/C (Primarily B & C))
VLANs (Theory, Trunking via ISL/802.1q, Implementation)
That's pretty much it. Know these topics and you will pass.
