Hi, just noticed my transaction logs were at almost 10GB for my Site DB while the DB is only 4GB.

Is it best just to backup then Shrink the db or is there a better way? I noticed an earlier post saying truncate the logs - is that the same as shrinking also should this be scheduled in Enterprise manager?

Any thoughts on Sharepoint db maintenance in general are welcome.

Thanks

Hello,

I am not sure if using the shrink is the exact same as to truncate a log. But if you make a full backup of the db and transaction logs you should be able to set so that the logfiles are truncated after the full backup is done.

I have used the shrink feature several times and I have not noticed any problems. I have however always made sure that I have a good full backup before making any changes and I also made all the changes outside of office hours just to be sure.

Thanks, even though I backup SPS by running a scheduled task everynight that runs the SPS backup tool and also use the SQL server agent to back it up with arcserve I ended up having to backup just the transaction logs in Enterprise manager for it to truncate.

Thanks again.
