Hi,

I've set up an Alert to backup my Transaction Log when the % Used reaches 75%.

Now this works fine but my question is, if this threashold is reached during the middle of an INSERT, will the INSERT pause whilst the log is truncated, or will it fail completely?

Thanks in advance.

No ... I believe it will NOT stop while the Translog is being backed up.

Thanks

Jay, that sounds right to me as well. Wouldn't that INSERT be treated as an uncommitted transaction and rolled back should the trans log be restored?

-If it ain't broke, break it and make it better.

The backup will mark completed transactions as available for truncation. The checkpoint will update the earliest active transaction - everything before that can be overwritten.

You insert will carry on but nothing after the start of that transaction will be available for truncation.
