Transaction Log Truncate and Log Shipping

Hello, SQL2008R2
We backup our database regularly. We also have Log Shipping setup.

My question is, if I want to truncate the transaction log (BACKUP LOG) after backing up the database, will this break log shipping?
I was thinking of doing this on Saturday nights to keep the log file from getting too large as we have limited space.

Is there a commit for the transaction log that needs done?
