I have a 120 Gb production databse that I backup and restore onto other server for our internal usage, ad-hoc reports...

I am reading about transaction log shipping option, and I was wondering how that exactly works.

I backup to disk at 8:00 PM, Backup to SDLT tape at 4:00 AM, and backup transaction log at 6:00 am. Database is in full transaction mode.

Backup file on the disk I use to restore from onto the other server.

Now what would happened if on last night's restored database I apply only tonight's transaction log?

Also, it is mentioned that one of the two servers, or a third server could be setup to monitor log shipping.

How you setup the server to monitor log shipping?

If anyone has been doing anything like this... it would be of a great help not to have to restore 120Gb every night.

Thanks in advance

Mihail

I'd recommend avoiding the Microsoft Log shipping.

Take a look at the FAQ I wrote on writing your own log shipping faq962-5754.
