I do a full DB backup everyday at 6:45 PM and then do a transaction log backup every 3 hours from 9:00AM to 6:00 PM (Daily).

Now, how can I delete the old transaction log? I only want to keep the new once after every full DB backup. What happens to the old translog backup being apended to the device that I created.. . does it keep apending if you do not delete them and will keep growing. . ?

The easiest way in my opinion to set this up is through the Database maintenance plans... you can set things like

"remove files older then" on both the full backups and the transaction log backups.

you can also do your re-indexing and check dbing etc

Hope this helps

Thanks. . I tried just that and let see what happens. I was hoping to add a few code on my scheduled Jobs and add another step to kill the old files
like

del e:\MSSQL\BACKUP\txt.BAK

Thanks again

You could set it up so that that the first one overrights and the rest of them append.

A simple way would be after you finish the backup, backup the transaction log to the device with overright in the same job. then have your regular job just append. Im sure there are other ways to do it as well.
