Hello, I have installed SQL 2000 onto my server, but am having difficulty deciding on the best use of my disk space for the transaction logs and databases.

I have 144Gb available for transactions and databases, made up of 4 mirrored 72Gb drives. Would it be better to split the drives physically (i.e. 72Gb Data, 72Gb Transactions), or create two logical drives (70% data, 30% transactions)?

Your thoughts are gratefully appreciated.

I prefer the 70-30 split. Check out chapter 6 of the SQL Server 2000 Operation Guide for some recommendations from Microsoft.

For those just starting with RAID, a brief explanation in SQL Magazine may prove to be a worthwhile read.
