I'm changing pc's. One is running Outlook97 on win98 connected to an Exchange 5.5 Server. The new Pc is running Win2000 Pro with Outlook XP.
Initially I got my Folders tranferred ok. But I inadvertantly Hit the outlook97 icon on the old machine and it pulled all the email history back. Now I can't get it back to the new machine. I setup the email profile again but to no avail. I have managed to send emails on the new machine however and the sent items folder has been transferred.

Where is the mail set to be delivered on the Outlook 97 client? Is it delivered to the mailbox on the Exchange server or is it to a personal folder?

It sounds like you have it set to deliver to a personal folder and it that is the case then you can either move the mail from the personal folder back to the mailbox or copy the .pst file to the new machine and open it there. joegz

Thanks you've certainly put me on the right track.
I managed to get my inbox back on the new machine copying the .pst file like you said. Originally it was on the mail server which was better because I could access my email from different machines. I can't the mail history back onto the mail server, I can only point new mail to be stored on it. Also the email folders seem to be split between two .pst files , one has the deleted and sent items and the other has the inbox etc. Can I merge these and get them back on the exchange server?

If you already have the mail delivery set to go to your mailbox on the exchange folder then all you need to do is open the .pst file(s) and then click and drag the messages from the folders in the PST to the folders on the Exchange server. joegz
