Time to ask the experts. I am looking for the best recommended Global Knowledge package for training on the installation of the BayStack 470. We will be using this product to connect our Option 11C through 81C for maintenance needs. Trying to find a CD based course as most of our techs are in the field and cannot get an on line connection good enough for the on line courses. Any recommendations would greatly appreciated as to what type course our guys should take.

I believe Global Knowledge only offers a course in BayStack switches, not a class specifically for the BayStack 470. Depending on how well your field techs know Ethernet, IP, and L2 Switching...they might be able to come up to speed from just a little time on the switch (set one up they can dial into)...and some of the PDF files describing the operation and configuration. You can download the PDFs from Nortel's web site.

If you're intent on sending people to classes...try this:

Configuring BayStack and Business Policy Switches
Product Number 7505C
Type Of Training - Classroom Learning

Topics covered for these switches include configuration interfaces, VLAN configuration, configuring reliability, configuring security, configuring IGMP, and configuring QoS. Information on how these devices are commonly used in networks is also included.
BayStack Switches covered in this class include:
BayStack 10/100Cost Effective Switches - BayStack 325–24T, 325–24G, 420–24T, 425–24T
BayStack 10/100 Resilient Fail–safe 10/100 Stackable Policy Switches – BayStack 470, 460, BPS, and 450
BayStack High–density Gigabit Stand–alone Switches – BayStack 380–24T, 380–24F
BayStack Resilient Fail–safe 10/100/1000 L3 Stackable Switches – BayStack 5510

Hands–on labs will include:
– Configuring the switch from factory defaults
– Using multiple configuration applications
– Configuring VLANs
– Configuring STP, MLT, and DMLT
– Configuring security
– Configuring IGMP
– Configuring QoS manually and through the QoS Wizard

Expect that many of the topics (and products) listed will be touched on *very* lightly. I've noticed that, like everyone else, they tend oversell the curriculum.

Good luck...
