Hi
I was wondering if there is anyway to capture traffic on ARN without using a sniffer.
I work on a network with around 200 locations that run arn, we use a consolo as agent for snmp, i was wondering if could use soemtyhing to capture traffic packets from this console ? or anything else.
Any tips?

Thanks.

Nortel has a utility called Pcap/Tap.

Right pctap but for this you need to be connected directly to the router phys.
So does not work :(

What do you mean with direct connected?

You can run pcap from a distance, and select the interface where you want to trace taken. Configuration is done by telnet or a gui. Afterwards you can download it, using tftp.

Thanks, but pcap has to be on the arn, right ?
Sorry but this nortle thing is new for me.

Thanks again.

Pcap, as a service, will run on the arn. This router act as a kind of a sniffer probe.
As I stated before, you can configure it by using telnet of a gui.

It will capture the traffic untill the buffer is full or until you stop it manually.

When it is stopped, you can tftp it and open it.
In Sitemanager you have a "pktconv.exe" tool. This makes it readable with network general.
Otherwise you need the pcaptool. Ask this tool from your reseller, they should be able to grasp it.
It works very good for LAN segment. FR or other WAN protocols gives problems with NAI.
