Hey!

I was wondering if anyone knows of a tool that kan help track what services are running on a server. we are in the process of hardening our datacenter. We need to be able to track and stop services that are not needed. some of these servers have been running for years thus all the help we can get would be great.

What OS on the servers ?

Well, there are a few ways I would start off.

First, I'd check the output of netstat -an, given that I can trust the output of course. Then I'd check running processes for anything. Then of course, I'd go through services.msc itself and look for things I don't need. If you suspect an attack, that's another story entirely. Typically services that are hidden from services.msc are not things you need to mess with, so I wouldn't worry about that.
