I am operating a small chat. In this chat there is sometimes a person who likes to make trouble. Ok. I got his IP, but this IP is not correct, because he/she is using some rewebbers to cover the real idendity.

Is there a way to find his correct IP adress?

Thanks a lot.

Not if the anonymous proxies are working at all. There is some potential that you can insert script into your web pages that allows you to request the actual IP of the browser, and compare that against the logged IP, but in today's NAT'd and proxied environment, it probably won't prove very useful. Besides, I understand that the better annonymous proxies will detect the script and insert their own IP.

Another potential option is to start rejecting the anonymous proxy addresses wholesale. It would take some time to figure out where they are, but each time this person uses one, you could just block that one. Maybe you only block those addresses when posts are being made, so that you don't block visitors from looking, just posting if they refuse to identify their actual IP. Make it a site policy that you won't accept posts from known annonymizers.

Thank you pansonic. That's the way I am doing in the moment, but this guy knows a lot of rewebbers, and i cannot stay in this chat all the time. Because he/she is insulting the wanted guests some have left from the chat.

This is really boring. Ok I'll wait until he is making a mistake and then I'll report it to official authorities like police.
