How would you run a trace of a laptop that is dialing in through RAS? Would you just put Sniffer Pro on the laptop and hav it running when you log in? Please help.

Thanks

You could use a freeware program like Ethereal to capture the traffic ( and export the traffic from this in Sniffer format and use Sniffer for the decodes

All you have to do in Sniffer on Win 9x is to go to: File Select Adapter and choose Dial Up. Then capture as usual..

Ethereal is a little more tricky, since you need to now the device name to capture from.

To snif an async connection, you have 2 ways :

The first one is OS dependant.
If you run on win98, you can snif your own dial up adapter and see your own traffic (but not the DLC layer PPP).

The second way will use the old DOS sniffer (Wanbook + Sniffer Network analyzer v5.40) which was supporting with his Y cable the async environment.
